AMD and others quit benchmark group due to 'Intel bias'
"The heart of our complaint is this: the SYSmark benchmark is not only comprised of unrepresentative workloads (workloads that ignore the importance of heterogeneous computing and, frankly, favor our competitor’s designs), but it actually generates misleading results that can lead to very poor purchasing decisions," AMD's chief marketing officer Nigel Dessau wrote in a blog post.

A step in mass storage technology
A team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has built a solid state storage system that they claim outperforms state-of-the-art flash memory products. The new system, know as Moneta, uses phase change memory, a technology that some predict will replace the NAND flash memory used in nearly every solid state drive (SSD) today. The UCSD prototype will be on display this week at the Design Automation Conference in San Diego

Basel, Switzerland
From Adiago Hotel in Basel, Switzerland, I walked through the Germany and France and had a nice one hour walk in each; no check points no police no nothing. Great feeling with no borders. The picture is for an old german side check point, empty just like teh Switzerland check point few meters away. Although Switzerlan is not part of the European Union

Mars, what is next ...
The ChemCam will fire a laser from the rover toward rock and soil targets up to 9 meters away, vaporizing materials from a 1 millimeter area and analyzing the atomic composition of the targets' surfaces. The vaporized material, a plasma of hot gas made of free-floating ions and electrons, will be analyzed by the onboard spectrograph.
