AMD and others quit benchmark group due to 'Intel bias'

"The heart of our complaint is this: the SYSmark benchmark is not only comprised of unrepresentative workloads (workloads that ignore the importance of heterogeneous computing and, frankly, favor our competitor’s designs), but it actually generates misleading results that can lead to very poor purchasing decisions," AMD's chief marketing officer Nigel Dessau wrote in a blog post.

LinkedIn, for 3 Billion Dollars

Still remember when Ahmed Kilani, invited me to the place ... I, then, expressed my feelings towards this "just another human network" thing. A step in mass storage technology

A team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has built a solid state storage system that they claim outperforms state-of-the-art flash memory products. The new system, know as Moneta, uses phase change memory, a technology that some predict will replace the NAND flash memory used in nearly every solid state drive (SSD) today. The UCSD prototype will be on display this week at the Design Automation Conference in San Diego

Apple & Religion

Neuroscientists in Britian have found that Apple imagery activates the same parts of the brain in Apple fanboys that religious imagery does in followers of that religion. In heated arguments on the Internet, some users sometimes say that Apple is like a cult, and it seems there might be at least some truth to that. And a recent BBC TV documentary, Secrets of the Superbrands, looked at why technology brands have become so popular. The first episode was focused on Apple, but it will move on to other companies, like Twitter, Facebook, and possibly even Microsof

3D transistor, a real thing now

As the designated enforcer of Moore's Law, Intel has consistently found a way to keep its two-year process shrink cadence on schedule. This time it's with three-dimensional semiconductors, by "re-inventing" the transistor with its new 3D Tri-Gate technology. Intel will begin churning out the Tri-Gate silicon in its upcoming "Ivy Bridge" processors, the 22nm shrink of the current generation 32nm Sandy Bridge processors. Intel maintains the 3D transistor technology will only add 2 to 3 percent to the cost of manufacturing the wafers, so system costs should take only a minor hit.
