One of my persisting old dreams was a solid state mass storage replacing the heavy, bulky, slow, unreliable, power consuming and ugly electromagnetic hard disk. The thing started with small flashes and now Intel is is offering a solution with reasonable starting capacity targeting mobile applications at this time.
Features: tiny 12 x 18 x 1.8 mm chip scale package, 4 GByte, PATA interface, making it attractive for mobile products, read speeds of 40 MBytes/s and write speeds of 30 MBytes/s, power usage of 300 mW active and only 1.1 mW in sleep mode, 3.3v I/O and control voltages and operates from 0° to 70° C. Price is $50.
